Stay ahead of the build and still own the product

You’re the first product hire, so every write-up, update and question lands on you. Grove keeps your decisions current and answers your developers from the plan, so your week goes to customers and the calls you were hired to make.

You were hired for the calls. Your week goes to everything around them.

Every call you make comes with legwork: the write-up, the updates, the follow-through. With Grove the legwork shrinks, and your time goes to the thinking and the customers.

Your week today
With Grove
Mon, 9:30amSort customer feedback and decide what’s worth planning
Bring the feedback into Grove to shape the idea. It checks the idea against the strategy, and you pick what’s next.
Mon, 2:00pmWrite requirements your developers won’t send back
Work the hard parts through with Grove. It reads the spec against the code and raises the edge cases first.
Tue, 11:00amRework the plan when your founder changes course
Decide what changes with Grove, and it carries the change into every document, with the reason kept.
Fri, 3:00pmSettle the team’s open questions
Grove answers what the plan already covers and brings you the rest, with the options laid out.

Your founder makes the bets. You shape the product.

Your founder hired you to carry the product, not to take the vision away. Their strategy lives in Grove, and every new piece of work is checked against it, with anything that doesn’t fit flagged.

How it works

Grove keeps your spec current, from first draft to shipped

  1. Grove reviews your spec like a builder before your developers see it

Work a hard idea through with Grove until the spec is done. It reads the spec against the code as your developers would, so it already answers their first questions.

Bulk removal › RequirementsRemoving many people at once
    • An admin picks people from the members list and removes them in one step.
    • Their open tasks go to the project owner.
    • Removals over 50 people run in the background.

Say the project owner is in the same removal. Their own open tasks would go to themselves, and then to nobody. Who should get them?

  2. Grove tells you what your developers are doing

Grove links each change your developers make to its project and sums up where the work stands against your plan, so you know what moved and what’s stuck before standup.

    Project statusBuilding4 days left
    The confirm step landed today
    Needs input
    • Drifted from the plan: #53 runs every removal in the background, not only those over 50 people.
    Worth knowing
    • Not started: nothing built covers the third outcome yet, and the target is Friday.
  3. Grove brings your developers’ questions back into the plan

When a developer or their coding agent hits something the plan doesn’t answer, they raise a thread in Grove. You settle it with Grove, and the answer goes back to them and into the spec.

    1. RequirementsAn admin can remove many teammates at once.Large removals

The plan doesn’t say whether removing a lot of people needs a second admin. Asking for one over 50 people is a small build. I’d suggest it. OK?

    2. Yes, over 50 people, and always when the people removed include an admin. The requirements were updated.

Grove works from its own agent, from Claude or ChatGPT, and from your developers’ coding agents.

The department you were hired to be

A product department’s discipline, for a team of one

A product department splits strategy, requirements, design and review between its people. As the first product hire, you hold all of it. Grove distills that discipline into one system you run, and the decisions stay with you and your founder.

Today
With Grove

We know because we ran those departments. The team behind Grove led product, design and engineering at IBM, Procore and MetLife, and built Grove to be a partner for a founding team as it grows.

Bringing Grove to your founder

Grove works across the team and reads your code, so your founder or CTO is part of turning it on.

What founding SaaS teams are saying

  • Proofmap
Before, product moved forward when the rest of the business slowed down and I had time to dig back into product strategy and planning. With Grove I keep up, bring more people into the process, and still drive the decisions that matter.
    Andy StaufferFounder and CEO
  • Trade Agent
For a small team, the hard part isn’t building, it’s taking a flood of customer requests and understanding what’s the right thing to build. A lot of requests are small things, and the big ideas get buried. Grove helps us focus on capturing, scoping, and deciding which ideas are worth moving forward.
    Nic WidhalmFounder and CEO
  • Olive
As business and technical co-founders, we never had a good way to plan the product together, or to bring both our feedback and our customers’ into it. Grove gives us one place for that, keeps ideas focused on real outcomes, and stops sales from saying one thing while product builds another.

Questions product managers ask

Is Grove going to replace me?

No. Grove isn’t an AI product manager, and it doesn’t make product decisions. It takes on the coordination that fills a product manager’s week, from the write-ups and keeping every document current to fielding your developers’ questions with a recommended answer and preparing each review.

What’s left is what your founder hired you for: how the product should work, what goes first, and what customers actually need.

Do I still write the requirements?

You decide what they say. Grove drafts them in product and UX terms from the work you do with it, as outcomes someone can check. You edit, cut and sign off, and Grove keeps them current as decisions change.

I already have specs in Notion and tickets in Linear

Keep the tracker. Your developers’ work stays where it is. A spec in Notion says what was decided on the day it was written. Grove keeps the decision current, carries every change through, and checks what shipped against it. Paste in what you have and start from there.

Does Grove do roadmaps and customer feedback?

Not as a roadmap tool. Ask Grove which requests keep coming up, like the feature three customers asked for this month, and it works the one you pick through to a plan and on to what shipped, with every decision tied to the strategy it serves. Choosing between features is still yours and your founder’s.

What happens when plans change mid-build?

Change the decision once. Grove carries it into every document that depended on it and keeps the reason, and your developers’ coding agents read the new version before they build.

Do I need my founder or CTO to get started?

For one step. You can request access yourself, and your CTO or founder connects your code, read-only. That connection is what lets Grove size the work, answer questions from the code and check what shipped, so Grove starts with it in place.

Grove works best with your founder in it too, because the strategy every decision is checked against is theirs.
